About

My background in fashion design and the garment industry is more than your standard seamstress which gives me the professional knowledge and equipment to make sure the final result is excellent quality.

My history in the garment industry begins at birth. My mother and father owned an upscale dress shop in a small town of Lamar, CO that I practically grew up in. My grandmother also was a seamstress. It seemed natural for me to want to be a fashion designer and off I went to college and received a degree in fashion design. My first job was with a manufacturer called Betty Rose and designed coats and suits for the very successful and widely distributed line. My fast track to New York lofts and busy streets changed course when I married andbegan my family a few years later. During those years doing alterations out of my home was a way to be a stay at home mom for my two beautiful, amazing, awesome girls (who may have had something to do with writing this).

Then along the way we also started a small/medium scale sewing contracting factory which I managed and employed up to 26 women sewing a variety of different products for many types of industries from hospitals to uniforms for the service industry as well women’s apparel. After the market for sewing factories in the US dwindled we then started Norback Custom Draperies and opened a showroom in downtown Farmington.

Fast forward to today. I am still in the drapery business under the name of Renee’s Custom Draperies and in addition I am able to do alterations again out of my home. My favorite part of being able to do this is, honestly, helping people. There are many ways someone could be of help to people and this is the best way I know how to help them. Yes, it is minor in the grand scheme of things but anything that makes people smile also makes me smile.

Thats my story, and Im sticking to it….
